The skills take into consideration the knowledge requirements, practical competence and correct attitudes necessary in job performance.A grade III person is prepared and equipped with skills, knowledge and attitude on appropriate use of tools which are needed to perform a job with efficiency and understanding.The level requires the operator to have basic principles, knowledge and practice of safety procedures, carpentry and joinery tools, equipment, machines and materials in order to perform to the desired standards in carpentry and joinery works and minimize on production costs.The major areas of training include: workshop safety, procedures and relevant statutory requirements, safety of persons and appropriate dressing, tools and equipment, selection of raw materials. Conversion and defects of timber, seasoning preservation and storage of timber, construction of joints and associated projects, iron mongery and finishing and finishes.
A grade II person is a skilled artisan with knowledge of techniques and the use of appropriate tools and equipment which are needed to perform a job with efficiency and understanding and can also perform supervisory activities on grade III operator.A grade II level comprises three major areas of functional competencies which include: joinery works, carpentry works and project estimation and costing. The level requires the artisan to have the necessary principles and good understanding of safety, procedures and use, care and maintenance , carpentry tools, materials, and equipment and construction procedures –joints and associated projects , iron monger, assembling of projects and finishing in order to perform to desired standards and to minimize on production costs.
The grade I level comprises of three major areas of functional competencies which includes; joinery works, carpentry works and project estimation and costing. The kevel requires the artisan to have the necessary principles and knowledge and skills of safety procedures, carpentry tools, equipment, machines and construction procedures in order to perform to the desired standards, he/ she is expected to have developed the correct attitudes towards the trade and the work environment. He/she should embrace practices that minimize production costs.Joinery works involves basic design and construction of various types of joints and the associated projects.
