The grade iii tailoring skill assessment guidelines are developed to test competencies of persons engaged in garment making industry in order to standardize their operation and certify them for their suitability to carry out tasks expected at the level.The trade skill area takes into consideration the knowledge requirements, practical competence and attitudes necessary in the job performance. Persons at this level of competence have useful skills which are required for the performance of tasks applicable in the trade.A grade III person is a skilled artisan with knowledge of technique and appropriate tools which are needed to perform a job with efficiency and understanding.The level requires the artisan to have basic knowledge and understanding of safety procedures, tools, equipment and materials in order to perform to desired quality, standards and minimize on production cost.The artisan at this stage should be able to interpret a given design, cut and assemble various male garments such as skirts, shorts, bush jackets, pajamas, Kitenge/ Kaunda shirts and basic trousers.The major area of functional competency for this level will be to interpret a given design, cut and assemble male garments.Basic areas of functional competency includes; Workplace safety procedure, Tools and equipment, Pattern drafting of male garments and Production of male garments.

The garment should include trench coats, tailored jackets, coats, tuxedos and overcoats.The major area of competency for this level will be to design, interpret, draft, cut intricate styles and assemble male garments.
